Cycle Smart
Before you set
out on your bike, make sure you've got the right outfit.
The most
important item of your outfit is your cycle helmet. If you ever fall
off your bike it's what comes between your head and the ground.
Always ensure
your bike is fitted with lights front and back and that they are working.
Never ride your bike at night without lights.
Bright clothes
are a really bright idea. Go for fluorescent or bright colours in
the daytime to stand out from the crowd. And if you are cycling in
the evening, something reflective is best. So be bright and be seen.
Two thirds of all
children who are hurt on their bikes get their injuries while trying to do
tricks.
Remember:
-
Bikes should only
be ridden by one person at a time.
-
Always keep about
60cm from the edge of the kerb.
-
Give clear
hand-signals when turning or overtaking.
-
Stay alert for
cars, people, animals and other bicycles.
