Huntington Village
Hall Fun Day a Great Success
Huntington
Village Hall hosted their fete on Sunday 12th October 2008.
This was to raise funds for the village hall and to showcase their newly
refurbished toilets and storage extension, thanks to a grant of £19,975
from the Landfill Communities Funds of Waste Recycling Group (WRG)
administered by the Environment Body WREN.
As part of the day, children from
Huntington Primary School marched around the village with the soldiers
from Chester Roman Tours. Also on the day, opponents battled on the
Gladiator Duel inflatable and we even got one of the Roman Soldiers in the
stocks! Refreshments included food from the barbecue and freshly made
crepes.
The event was well attended and members of
the community had the opportunity to see our newly refurbished toilets and
storage extension.
 The
Village Hall building was built in the 1940's, just after World War 2.
The old toilets were in desperate need of modernisation, as they were
damp, cold, and unhygienic and had no provisions for disabled users.
The new toilets are bright, hygienic and
include facilities for disabled users, as well as baby changing
facilities. The new storage extension gives much needed storage for items
used by the committee for their various fund raising activities to keep
the hall running - these include quiz nights, variety shows, children’s'
talent shows and fetes.
Sheila
Fripp, Chairperson of the Village Hall Committee says “After many years
of fund raising, together with the help of WREN, we now finally have new
disabled toilets. The new toilets greatly enhance the facilities in the
hall.”
Richard Smith, WREN project manager added
“We are delighted that works to improve this valuable community building
have been completed. We were really impressed by the determination and
drive of the committee to improve the building for all users and hope that
the improvements bring lasting benefits.”
The Village Hall is a much loved and well
used facility within the village of Huntington, people of all ages use the
facilities. Groups include the local playgroup, Brownies and Guides, WI
and the Senior Citizens Club. The new facilities certainly make the hall
a more pleasant place to be in.
